The conference was co-founded in 2006
By Dr. Giovanni Piedimonte and Dr. David Skoner, who had a pre-existing friendship and wanted to spend more time working and socializing together. At the time, Dr. Piedimonte was working in Morgantown, West Virginia, and Dr. Skoner was working in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They agreed that a world-class asthma conference was needed. The venue of Nemacolin was chosen because of its beauty and location halfway between the cities of Morgantown and Pittsburgh. Good fortune followed when Drs. Deborah Gentile, Sally Wenzel Morganroth, and Paul O'Byrne subsequently joined as Conference Directors.
